Company History

Unisense FertiliTech A/S was founded in 2003 as a subsidiary of the company of Unisense A/S,  to develop technology to improve human embryo assessment in IVF.   In 1999 Unisense A/S, with an expertise in development of microsensor measurement instruments, began measuring respiration rates of bovine embryos using a simple microsensor set-up. This method was deemed applicable for human IVF research and a PCT application was filed in 2002. Initial research using bovine models led the way to collaborations with embryologists in Europe and North America to examine the potential for using this technology for human embryos.  Towards this end, an instrument incorporating a fully stable incubation environment with integrated time-lapse image acquisition and respiration was developed.

Since 2008, the company has focused efforts on the very promising area of time-lapse enabled embryo assessment, and towards this end has developed, and manufactures the EmbryoScope® Embryo Monitoring System.

The company is involved in numerous international collaborations both in respiration and time-lapse enabled embryo analysis, and continues to refine embryo assessment algorithms.
